NEET counselling: documents and costs to prepare for
A calm starting point for families exploring private medical colleges, with a checklist of questions to take to official counselling notices.
If you are exploring private medical colleges, organise your documents and budget before making a decision. This guide is a preparation checklist, not a list of current counselling rules or deadlines.
Follow the correct official authority
Different institutions can use different counselling authorities. Check the current MCC notices and UP DGME website to identify the correct route for the college you are considering. For example, Sharda’s official admission process states NEET-UG and UP state online counselling for MBBS.
Prepare a document folder
Have your exam scorecard, identity documents, school records and photographs ready to check against the authority’s official document list. Domicile, category and other certificates depend on the rules that apply to your application. Do not assume one generic checklist fits every candidate.
Ask for the complete cost in writing
| Cost component | Question to ask |
|---|---|
| Tuition | What is the official annual fee for this admission year? |
| Hostel and mess | Are they compulsory, and what do they cost? |
| Deposits | Which deposits are refundable and under what conditions? |
| Additional charges | What examination, university or other charges apply? |
| Withdrawal | What is the written refund policy and timeline? |
Keep admission decisions traceable
Save official notices, application acknowledgements, allotment letters and payment receipts. Do not share passwords or one-time passwords with an intermediary. Avoid anyone promising admission regardless of eligibility or official allotment.
Browse medical colleges and get help organising your questions. Counselling can support a decision; it cannot guarantee a seat.
